Los Angeles Zoo

One morning last June I decided that it would be a good idea to add a little visual spice to my usual 3 mile walk. I thought that the zoo would be a nice place to do my steppin’. Little did I know that this nice morning would  turn out to be a sweltering hot day.

The last time I actually visited the zoo was in 2005 when Brian and I just happened upon it on one of our photo fun days. This zoo has never been anything to write home about, but we noticed they were doing a massive amount of remodeling then and I figured maybe it would be new and sparkly and fun like the Lincoln Park Zoo (Chicago, Illinois) or the San Diego Zoo (San Diego, California).

Well I was wrong. Though it has had some improvements it is not this vast place of Botanical Gardens and Happy animals that they boast about in commericals or via the web.  I still count the “chimp accidental finger in another chimps butt (2005)” watching expirience more shocking and life altering than what laid before me on this sweaty day. I will say that the Gorilla’s do have a lovely playground.

I know you are saying, “why animal photos?”. Well dad gummit I have virtually thousands of photos I have to look through and re-crop to get this site back to where it was and these were easily found. So there!

I shot these photos with both digital and film cameras. Click on the photos for full view

Great work again! I particularly love the last one, “cute w/attitude” and “where the gorillas live & play”. Could you tell me which ones are film and which ones are digital?

    Keep it up!

pixelyzed, the first 8 are definitely digital as are the bear and the last photo. The third row and the middle pic on the bottom are film. They were shot on a Canon Elan. Okay I think that is right haha.

Kimtisha, You can have all the animal photos you want, haha. I do have some more to add at a later time. I hope I still have my baby raccoons and skunks photos. They are hilarious.

Great pictures. I think I have photos from every trip that I went to a Zoo: LA Zoo, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Denver Zoo, Bronx Zoo, and so on. Sometimes its great to try and take a picture with and without being able to tell that it’s an artificial habitat.

@ gcmandrake I am totally with you on this. I have photos from my 110 camera of the San Diego Zoo, LOL. I will say though that the LA Zoo is definitely one of the uglier Zoo’s, even with all their “upgrades”. The animals are not as active or even out half the time. Thank you for stopping by.

Liked the meerkats the most!! Reminded me of a scene from Goodfellas where Joe Pesi’s character was talking about a painting and says something like, “One dog looking one way and the other dog is looking the other way and the man in the middle says ‘what do you want from me?’” LOL All great photos though.
